In addition to their daily feed, chicken stomachs are a great snack to be included in your dogs diet.

As a reward snack on walks or during training, the crispy stomachs are very popular. They are low in calories and fat whilst being an ideal supplement to the healthy diet of a dog.

By gentle processing, chicken stomachs contain important proteins and nutrients.

The following explains what chicken stomachs are, how they are made and what needs to be considered during feeding.

Production and Properties of Chicken Stomach Snack

Chicken stomachs, as supplementary feed for dogs, are natural snacks, which are made from raw freshly slaughtered products. After air drying, they are heated to over 100 degrees Celsius to reduce possible germ content.

They are a 100% natural product without any artificial additives. The chicken stomachs provide a nutritious protein source for dogs and provide a welcome change in their daily ration.

The protein content in the chicken snacks is particularly high; it can be between 70 and 80%. In addition, the stomachs naturally have a strong aromatic smell and an intense taste. This factor makes them especially attractive for dogs.

Furthermore, the low carbohydrate and fat content of the dried chicken stomachs makes them a healthy snack.

Through the drying process, they can be stored for up to 12 months in a cool, dry and dark place.

Chicken Stomach in the Diet of the Dog

The species-appropriate dog nutrition usually consists of a high-quality protein source, good digestible carbohydrates, low in fat and enough vitamins, minerals and trace elements.

Chicken stomachs consist of pure muscle meat and provide protein to dogs and as well as including additional nutrients.

Naturally grain-free, they are also suitable for food-sensitive or allergic dogs. The organic snack is easy to digest, and the crunchy consistency is good for dog dental care as it can help wipe away existing plaque.

Chicken stomachs are suitable for all dogs, large or small and are a useful supplement to the daily feed ration.

Depending on the size of the dog, there are recommendations on how much should be fed per day. However, in general it depends on the individual compatibility and whether the chicken stomachs serve as a reward snack or are a fixed part of the daily ration.

If the chicken snacks are fed in addition to the daily ration, the amount fed should be subtracted from the feed portion.

Since the snacks are very intense and spicy in the taste and stimulate drinking, the dog should always have enough water available.

Chicken Stomach as a Reward

Chicken stomachs are easy to handle, as they do not take up much space and have hardly any grease. They can be taken in the feeding bag during a walk or for training in the dog school.

Sugar or any hidden calories need not be feared here. For most dogs it is a welcome snack, which increases the motivation for the training.

Due to the aromatic smell, the chicken breasts are also well suited for nose work. You can hide the stomachs in the most unusual places, your dog will surely sniff them out!

From the pet owner perspective, dried chicken stomachs have little to no odour, therefore this isn’t a problem like other dog snacks.

Of course, it is possible to get fresh chicken stomachs, if you want to support the diet of the dog with the cooked version.

However, cooked stomachs have a much stronger smell. In addition, they should be fed as directly as possible.

Like every chew dog snack, it is recommended that you keep an eye on your four-legged friend when they are chewing the chicken stomach to ensure they don’t swallow the snack full.
