Feeding your dog a hypoallergenic food diet doesn’t have to be boring when you add in fun treats like this now and then.

Just make sure that treats aren’t making up a huge portion of his diet. Over-indulging on snacks can cause your pooch to pack on the pounds, just like it does with us, humans!

Please keep in mind, though, that dogs, like people, can have different types of allergies.

This one is geared towards dogs with chicken and beef allergies. It does use whole grain flour, BUT you can swap that out with coconut flour, rice flour or even almond flour.

Ingredient Swaps and Add-ins

Ingredient Swaps:

  • Flour: Use chickpea flour, coconut flour, or quinoa flour instead of traditional wheat flour to ensure the treats remain hypoallergenic and gluten-free.
  • Almond Butter: Substitute with sunflower seed butter or pumpkin seed butter if your dog has nut allergies, ensuring it’s unsweetened and free from xylitol.
  • Chicken Broth: If your dog is sensitive to chicken, replace it with vegetable broth or turkey broth, making sure it’s low-sodium and free of onions or garlic.

Add-ins:

  • Sweet Potatoes: Add mashed sweet potatoes for a touch of sweetness and added fiber.
  • Cranberries: Incorporate dried, unsweetened cranberries for a boost of antioxidants and a festive flavor.
  • Chia Seeds: Mix in a teaspoon of chia seeds to add omega-3 fatty acids and a bit of crunch.

These swaps and add-ins allow you to tailor the treats to your dog’s specific dietary needs, ensuring they’re both safe and enjoyable.

I grew up with a wonderful German Shepherd named Jake, who I loved SO much that I named my son after him. When I’m not writing for DogVills or my own site, Pretty Opinionated, I love spending time with my teenager (when he actually lets me) and my Pharaoh Hound, Freya. I’m also an avid reader AND a total TV fanatic.
